- A Resource About Gallstone Brochure

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- If you suffer from the effects of gallstones, you are one of over a
- million people who this year will join the more 25 million Americans estimated
- to have stones in their gallbladder. That is over 10 percent of the
- population. While anyone can develop this condition, it is more common in
- women, certain ethnic groups such as North American Indians. The chances of
- developing gallstones increases with age, so that by age 65, 20 percent of all
- Americans have a stone or two. If the symptoms of severe and steady pain in
- the upper abdomen, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, or severe pain and
- tenderness in the right side of the abdomen under the ribs are familiar to
- you, you may included in the statistics I have just given you. You will then
- want to obtain all the information in a new pamphlet available from the
- American Liver Foundation, which is your free of charge by sending your
- request and a stamped, self-addressed business sized envelope to "Gallstone
- Brochure" Department AB, American Liver Foundation, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009. The
- booklet is filled with many of the questions, and the answers, that are sent
- to me in great numbers. The workings of the gallbladder, the causes of
- gallstones, the signs and symptoms of gallstones, as well as a discussion of
- the treatments now available, surgical and nonsurgical are all included,
- making this a most informative pamphlet, and one you can not afford to pass
- up.
